MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS
- In collaboration with Greater Green Triangle GP Education and Training, the Division held its first inter-professional Conference on Primary Health Care - ‘Riding the Wave’ in February 2010
- Mental Health Training for GPs and Allied Health Professionals in Warrnambool with 25 GPs and 5 AHP from our Division attending
- Practice Nurse Preceptorship Research Project will present on the project’s findings at the Royal College of Nursing Community and Primary Health Care Nursing Conference in October 2010
- Rural Palliative Care Coordinator developed an education program for International Medical Graduates in conjunction with Greater Green Triangle GP Education and Training and specialist palliative care services, and presented a paper on this at the General Practice Victoria Palliative Care Forum in August 2009
- 34% of Division practices are now utilising the Pen Cat Tool for monitoring of chronic disease and data cleansing and extraction
- Health Integration Team Leader was invited by Department of Health to write a discussion paper on the issue of inclusion of non-GP patient files (eg HMOs) in the Limited Adverse Occurrence Screening Program
- Team Leaders for the new Rural Primary Health Services Program and Aged Care Access Initiative providing an excellent example of teamwork across their portfolios, worked in collaboration to employ Allied Health Providers to support current AHP services throughout the Division, including Aged Care Facilities and Aboriginal Health Services. Considerable work undertaken in Clinical Governance was undertaken which has been recognised by General Practice Victoria, with Team Leaders asked to present their achievements in risk management and clinical governance to the Divisions Network.
- Practice Nurse and Manager Network facilitated by the Division continues to attract large attendances, providing valuable training and networking opportunities to practice staff
- Australian Primary Care Collaboratives methodology has been successfully introduced to 4 practices including one Aboriginal Health Service as an adjunct to Closing The Gap Program. These 4 practices are leading the way in ATSI self identification, clinical software data cleansing, increasing indigenous health assessments and improving knowledge of MBS items
- Introduction of a secure messaging system between Division’s practices, hospital and specialists, is being trialled

Our Organisation The main office is located in Camperdown, and a satellite office is located in Warrnambool. The Division employs 20 staff, comprising of Executive Officer, Program Development Officer, Health Integration Team, Medical Workforce Team, Mental Health Team, Practice Capacity Building Team, Information Technology Program, Finance Team and three Administration Staff.
The ODGP deals with a variety of stakeholders including 12 public and one private hospitals, 7 Local Governments Agencies, 3 Primary Care Partnerships (PCPs), Community Services throughout the region, 4 Aboriginal Health Agencies, the South West Alliance of Rural Hospitals (Regional IT Initiative) and the Rural Health Unit. |

Otway Division of General Practice (ODGP) is located in southwest Victoria. Our Division extends from Winchelsea and Aireys Inlet in the east across to Portland, Heywood and the South Australian border. The sea forms our southern boundary and the Grampians/Great Dividing Range our northern one. The region is essentially a primary production area, with the emphasis on sheep and dairy farming, while a significant tourism industry exists along the Great Ocean Road. Medical services (ie. A& E, Obstetrics and Anaesthetics) are largely delivered by GPs working in small country hospitals, with specialist back up principally from Warrnambool, Hamilton, Colac and Geelong. |
