Heywood is a small service centre on the Fitzroy River, situated amidst rolling green hills in an agricultural, pastoral and timber cutting district. Heywood is 357 km west of Melbourne at the intersection of the Princes and Henty Highways.

The Heywood township has a population of approximately 1,300 people. Heywood residents enjoy a small rural village lifestyle.

Heywood is conveniently located within 30 minutes of the coast and close by are a number of pristine National parks, including Mt Eccles National Park, Discovery Bay National Park, Cape Nelson State Park, Mt Richmond National Park and the Lower Glenelg National Park.
Lake Condah Aboriginal Mission, 25 km north-east of town, affords valuable insight into the history of Victoria's indigenous people while the coast is only 25 km to the south.

There are approximately 6,000 people living in the local area.
The local shopping centre, which includes, supermarkets, bakery, pharmacy, news agency, butcher, children’s clothing store, Hotel, Milk bars/Cafes, and bank agencies service the day to day needs of the local population.
Local primary industry consists mainly of farming activities with beef, dairy, and wool production, but includes other industries such as timber plantation, timber milling, stock feed (mill) production and several vineyards.
Larger centres such as Portland (28 klm), Hamilton (59 klm), Warrnambool (95 klm) and Mt. Gambier SA (90 klm), are also within easy reach of Heywood. These centres provide increased choice of dining, entertainment and other shopping and leisure activities. |
