The Limited Adverse Occurrence Screening Program (LAOS) provides Otway Division’s small rural hospitals with a very simple, cost effective method of delivering safer health care to their patients. It is a blame free and non confrontational system which aims to improve patient safety by changing the culture of error management from individual blame to that of identifying the systemic issues. The LAOS program ensures that experience and knowledge is shared throughout the rural medical profession in a non-threatening manner leading to quality improvement in participating rural hospitals. The Otway Division of General Practice (ODGP) is one of the six lead country divisions funded through the Department of Health to conduct this program.
